Here's an update from my first year on the Burlington Housing Authority

In April 2024, I was elected to the three-year seat on the Board of the Housing Authority.  As the year 2024 ends, I want to share an update on what’s been happening.

In August 2024, Jack Nagle, the Executive Director for the Arlington Housing Authority, was the Governors Appointed Board member to our Housing Authority Board.

The major roof replacement for 15 Birchcrest was finished to everyone’s satisfaction.  There have been various policy changes made by Paula Kinnon, Executive Director, and her staff.  BCAT has visited as part of their ongoing effort to keep Burlington aware of what happens in the various departments and organizations in town.

One of my primary goals in my campaign this past April was to apply for a grant with the State to determine the feasibility of senior housing on the 13 acres on Adams St.  I’m proud to announce that the Executive Director filed for this grant in September 2024 with a scheduled date to discuss the grant application with the Mass Housing Partnership in December 2024.  Stay tuned for an update on this and any future meetings.

The biggest thing I’ve learned this past year is how much goes on behind the scenes to provide safe, sanitary and decent living conditions.  Our Executive Director, who started August 2023, has made many positive changes in a short time, affecting people’s lives and making living there that much better.  I still have a lot to learn and appreciate the current Board members’ support and guidance from the Executive Director.
